Custom Super Light XC Wheelset: NOBL TR32, DT Swiss 240 & Sapim Build

At Ecocana Sports, we recently completed a custom dream wheelset build for a customer looking to maximize their XC rig's efficiency. By combining NOBL TR32 28H carbon rims with ultra-reliable DT Swiss 240 hubs and high-precision Sapim spokes with Secure Lock nipples, we created a super lightweight wheelset engineered for pure speed and long-term durability.

1. The Rim Foundation: NOBL TR32 28H Carbon Rims

The core of any lightweight performance wheelset starts at the rim bed. NOBL engineered the TR32 specifically for modern cross-country and downcountry riding.

Optimized Width and Profile

The NOBL TR32 features a wide profile designed to support modern, high-volume XC tires. This allows for lower tire pressures, delivering superior traction over roots and rocks without tire squirm.

Sine Wave Carbon Architecture

Utilizing NOBL's signature wave profile, the rim distributes spoke tension evenly around the spoke bed. The 28-hole (28H) drilling pattern keeps the structure ultralight while maintaining the lateral stiffness required for crisp handling under heavy pedaling forces.

2. Smooth and Lightweight Engagement: DT Swiss 240 Hubs

A high-performance rim requires an equally refined hub set to handle rotational loads efficiently. The DT Swiss 240 hub set is widely recognized as the benchmark for weight, durability, and tool-free serviceability.

• Ratchet EXP System: Integrates the driver mechanism into the inner bearing, reducing overall component weight while increasing hub stiffness.
• Instant Power Transfer: Fast, positive engagement ensures every watt of your pedaling effort transfers directly into forward momentum during steep climbs.
• Low Friction Bearings: Premium sealed bearings keep rolling resistance to an absolute minimum.

3. Precision Lacing: Sapim Spokes & Secure Lock Nipples

Lacing a custom wheel demands top-tier hardware to keep spoke tension balanced throughout the wheel's lifespan.

High-Tensile Sapim Spokes

We selected premium Sapim spokes to connect the DT Swiss hubs to the NOBL carbon rims. Known for their impressive strength-to-weight ratio and fatigue resistance, Sapim spokes absorb harsh trail vibrations while keeping the wheel rotationally light.

Sapim Secure Lock Nipples

To prevent spokes from loosening under intense riding conditions, this build features Sapim Secure Lock nipples. The locking mechanism holds exact spoke tension over time, eliminating the need for frequent truing and preventing noise.
